PV500 hardware

The PV500 uses the most powerful hardware of all Panasonic compact Machine Vision systems that are currently on offer. It is the ideal choice for inspection tasks which require high inspection speed and processing power. Find out more about the hardware here:
  • System overview
  • Digital cameras
  • Standardized interfaces
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Support of several PLC protocols
  • Image storage on SD cards
System overview

  1. SD memory card (SDHC). Can save setting programs, captured images, and inspection results.
  2. Parallel I/O. Equipped with both MIL connectors and terminal sockets.
  3. RS232C port for communications with external devices, including other makers' PLCs as well as PLCs using our own protocol.
  4. RS232C/RS485 port*.
  5. Power port. 24 VDC power port separately provided for safety design.
  6. USB connector*. For connection to a PC to use the setting tool.
  7. Keypad. The dedicated keypad with an ergonomic design provides excellent operability for setting.
  8. Cameras. Up to four cameras of three different types can be connected (Available with the four-camera type):
    • Quad-speed cameras
    • 2-megapixel camera
    • Ultra-compact camera
  9. Ethernet connector. Gigabit Ethernet compatible. High-speed transfer of captured images possible.
  10. XGA monitor output. Highest resolution in its class.

Digital cameras
Currently, the PV500 supports three different types of digital cameras:
Quad-Speed Camera
Image transfer is four times faster compared with a standard CCD camera. Using the partial-imaging mode you can select parts of an image for transfer. Image parts can be transferred in only 2 ms.
2 Megapixel Camera
It offers you an image resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels, thus almost eight times the resolution of a conventional standard CCD camera.
Ultra-compact Camera
The head of this camera only measures 12 x 12.5 x 47.5 mm and is therefore ideally suited for a narrow and restricted inspection environment.

All cameras can be connected in any order to the PV500. Thanks to their PoCL (power over CameraLinkTM) technology, there are no additional power cables needed in addition to the camera cables - installation and service made easy.

Standardized interfaces
The PV500 offers the major standard interfaces such as RS232, USB, Gigabit Ethernet and a parallel port with 64 digital I/Os. This makes the PV500 easily connectable to host PC or PLCs. The connection to buses such as Profibus or others can be realized easily using our PLC products. Additionally, data can be stored on an SD card.

Gigabit Ethernet
Using the PV500's Gigabit Ethernet interface, data and images can be transferred quickly to a host system. With the Gigabit Ethernet, you can even transfer large images (e.g. 2 megapixel) in a passable speed. A separate graphics processor makes it possible to display the images at the same time on the screen.

The connected cable type and transfer rate will be detected automatically which simplifies the network installation.

Support of several PLC protocols
Communication protocols of several PLC manufacturers (Panasonic, Omron, Mitsubishi and others) are already integrated in the PV500. Such PLCs can be directly connected to the PV500, keeping the installation effort to a minimum.

Image storage on SD cards
Storing images, e. g. of faulty products, is a highly welcome feature to document quality control. The PV500 can store up to 600 images in real time in its internal memory. Should this be not sufficient, you can insert an optional SD card into the PV500, which allows the storage of additional images. For example, you can store up to 8,800 high-resolution images or more than 25,000 inspection programs on a single 16 GB SD card. As the PV500 already supports the SDHC protocol, the storage of images will be fast even for SD cards with a big memory.
