Electrify your car with Panasonic
01.09.2009
The trend to electrify vehicles will certainly accelerate and continue for the next several decades.
The beginnings were marked by the introduction of start-stop systems (micro hybrid), followed by mild hybrids, then strong hybrids and finally purely electric vehicles that can run for a few hundred kilometers without requiring a recharge.
Panasonic Electric Works offers innovative relay solutions for all these applications, helping us reduce carbon dioxide emission from cars and become less dependent on oil.
Panasonic enjoys more than 50 years of experience in the relay business and more than 10 years in the field of hybrids and purely electric vehicles. To date, 5 million of our EV relays have found their way into applications around the world without any field return.
Panasonic Electric Works recently released the EV 120A relay, which helps close the gap between the 80A and 300A types. The EV120A can carry 120A continuous current or 400A for 30 seconds. Compared to the EV 80A type, this relay also offers an improved cut-off current capability, making it ideal for lithium-ion battery technology. It can break a short circuit current of around 1200A and carry more than 2000A for 100ms. The EV 120A relay is available as a standard version with either a 12V or 24V coil; high voltage connection is established using bus bar terminals and M6 stud bolts.
Another advantage of the EV 120A relay is that it has the same outline as the EV 80A relay. Hence our customers can consider both types while designing their application and select the most economical solution based on the requirements at hand.
All Panasonic EV relays have a robust, hermetically sealed contact block, rendering this relay explosion-proof and intrinsically safe. This means your system will operate safely, even in the event of a malfunction.
Over the past decade, Panasonic Electric Works has built up a broad portfolio and offers EV relays for precharging circuits, auxiliary applications (e.g. electrical air conditioning and heaters), special silent relays that reduce switching noise, and relays for charging from a common household outlet or special charging stations.
Finally, capitalize on our expertise to provide you with customized, complete battery disconnect units (BDU). BDUs usually contain main relays and precharge relays, but can also be equipped with battery monitoring devices, current sensing and a charging function. We have all the products you need to realize such solutions.
