High performance, modular and compact: Panasonic PROFINET IO Device Unit

26 Jan 2010

Powerful, compact and modular programming logic controllers from Panasonic Electric Works have opened up new perspectives for factory automation for many years.

High-performance fieldbus slave units provide flexibility to our customers, who can implement fieldbus networking without exchanging the FP-Sigma or FP2/FP2SH controller unit.

Flexible slave units for PROFIBUS, DeviceNet and CANopen were introduced in 2008 and have proven themselves in the field. Now Panasonic Electric Works has responded to the exploding popularity for "real-time, factory-wide Ethernet" communication with its PROFINET IO Device Unit.

Two RJ45-port connectors with an integrated 2-port switch enable real-time communication within any network topology (bus, ring, tree, star), reducing the need for expensive external switches.

The PROFINET IO Device Unit complies with PROFINET IO conformance class B. Network management (SNMP) is implemented for advanced diagnostic support, and topology recognition (LLDP) provides for easy maintenance. A "fast start-up" feature means the unit can be used in advanced applications such as found in the automotive industry. Moreover, 128 words of input/output data can be exchanged in each direction in real time!

Ready-made function libraries for all four fieldbus networks are available free-of-charge for Panasonic's IEC programming software Control FPWIN Pro. These libraries drastically shorten the time needed to develop your applications, and consequently help save valuable human resource costs.

If you prefer not to rely on a crystal ball but nevertheless want to be armed for the future, choose Panasonic for flexibility in bus technology.
